Ambito e contenutoDr Fraser Bergersen is a distinguished plant scientist whose research in the field of microbiology, particularly through the study of symbiotic nitrogen fixation in legumes, has led to improved crop performance in Australia and Asia. After completing an MSc (Hons) from the University of Otago he joined the CSIRO Division of Plant Industry in Canberra. Initially appointed as a Research Scientist, he remained with the organisation for the rest of his working life, retiring from his position of Chief Research Scientist in 1994. He received a DSc from the University of New Zealand in 1962. Elected a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Science in 1985, he served the Academy as a member of Council (1987-1993) and Foreign Secretary (1989-1993). Dr Bergersen is also a Fellow of the Royal Society.
